Jaago — Privacy Policy
Jaago is a voice alarm and daily-tasks app. It is built to keep your life on your phone. There is no account, no advertising and no tracking, and we never sell data.
What stays on your phone
Your alarms, timers, reminders, notes, to-dos, calendar events, world clocks, settings, any songs you add and everything in your Locker are stored only on your phone. They are not uploaded, synced or backed up by Clockborn. Android's own device backup does not include Jaago's settings, voice or weather data.
The Locker
Photos and videos you put in the Locker are encrypted on your phone with AES-256. The key is locked with your password, or with the answer to your recovery question, and it is also bound to your phone's secure hardware (Android Keystore), so the files can't be opened on any other device. You pick the files yourself through Android's file picker: Jaago doesn't read your gallery. The Locker is never uploaded and never included in any backup, and Clockborn has no copy of your password, your answer or your key, so Clockborn can't open the Locker or recover it. If you forget both your password and your answer, the Locker can only be erased. If you turn on fingerprint unlocking, Android checks your fingerprint; Jaago never sees it. Uninstalling Jaago, or moving to a new phone, leaves the Locker behind for good: save anything you want to keep to your Gallery first.
Microphone and speech
Jaago listens only when you tap the sun, the widget, the quick-settings tile or the lock-screen shortcut.
Jaago Voice (optional). If you download Jaago Voice in Settings, your speech is turned into text by Jaago's own speech engine, entirely on your phone. The audio never leaves the phone and no other company is involved. The engine (about 680 MB) is downloaded once from Clockborn's server, which fetches it from the open-source sherpa-onnx project. You can remove it at any time in Settings.
Otherwise, your speech is turned into text by your phone's speech recognition service. Jaago asks it to work offline, and it does wherever your phone supports this. On some phones the service provider (for example Google) may process the audio according to its own privacy policy. Jaago does not record, store or upload audio.
When words leave the phone
Some requests can't be understood by the rules on your phone, such as word problems, unusual phrasing or two things at once. For those, the text of what you said (never the recording) is sent to Clockborn's server (jaago-api, run on Cloudflare) together with the current time and time zone. There it is passed to a language model (Cloudflare Workers AI) to be understood. The text is used only to answer that request. It is not stored, logged against you or used to train models. This happens only when you are online.
Other languages. In languages other than Hindi and English, Jaago first translates what you said into English on your phone, with Google's ML Kit translator, and understands it there; only when that isn't enough is the text sent to Clockborn's server as above. The translator's language pack (about 30 MB) is downloaded once from Google. The words are translated on the phone and are never sent by the translator; ML Kit does send Google anonymous diagnostics about how the translator itself performs (see Google's ML Kit data disclosure).
Weather and currency
- Weather (on unless you switch it off in Settings): if your phone's Location is on and you've allowed Jaago to use it, your approximate location, rounded to about 10 km, is sent to Clockborn's server. Otherwise no location is sent, and the server uses the approximate city your internet connection comes from, as estimated by Cloudflare from the network address. Either way the server asks for the forecast for that rounded place from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway), or, if it doesn't answer, from WeatherAPI.com, OpenWeather or Open-Meteo, and keeps nothing. Only the rounded place is passed on.
- Currency rates: when you convert money, the currency code is sent to Clockborn's server. The server fetches the European Central Bank's daily reference rates.
No other personal data is included in these requests.
The free demo
Every feature works once for free. So that the demo stays one try per phone, even after reinstalling, Jaago makes an anonymous code on your phone: a one-way hash (SHA-256) of the ID Android gives Jaago on that phone. That code, and the names of the features tried (for example "alarm" or "calculator"), are sent to Clockborn's server and kept there. The code can't be turned back into the ID, and it isn't linked to your name, account, phone number or anything else. Once you buy Jaago, nothing more is sent.
Buying Jaago
Payment is handled entirely by Google Play. Jaago only learns from Google Play whether your Google account owns Jaago; Clockborn never sees your payment details. Jaago also asks Google Play whether a newer version of the app is available, so it can update itself.
New wallpapers
When you open Settings, Jaago fetches the list of newly published wallpapers and their small previews from Clockborn's server, and a full picture when you choose one. These requests carry no personal data.
Problem reports
If Jaago crashes, freezes or its native code fails, the next time it opens it sends Clockborn a short report: the kind of failure, where in Jaago's code it happened, the app and Android versions, the phone's make and model, and the app's language. Before it leaves the phone, quoted text, long numbers and email addresses are removed from the report, so it never carries what you said, typed or saved. To count how many phones a problem affects, the server keeps a one-way daily hash of the network address, which can't be turned back into the address. Reports are used only to fix Jaago and aren't linked to you. You can turn automatic reports off in Settings → Report a problem.
If you write to us through Report a problem, what you write, and your email address if you choose to give one so that we can reply, is sent to Clockborn's help desk with the same app and phone details. If you give an address, it also gets one short note to say your message arrived (at most one a day), and our reply if one is needed. These emails are delivered by Brevo, an email service, on Clockborn's behalf.
If many phones crash in the same optional part of Jaago (for example the 3D sun or the translator), Clockborn's server may switch that part off on every phone for a while, so Jaago uses its plain way instead. Alarms are never affected.
Contacts and calls
Jaago reads your contacts only when you ask it to call or message someone, and only on your phone, to find who you meant. Contacts are never uploaded. Calls are placed by your phone. Messages open in your messages app or WhatsApp with the text ready, and you choose to send them.
Location
Location (approximate only) is used for the weather and to follow the real sunrise and sunset where you live. Without it, Jaago goes by your internet connection's city for the weather, and by that or your time zone for the sun.
Children
Jaago is suitable for everyone and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone.
Security
Requests to Clockborn's server are encrypted (HTTPS) and signed so that only the Jaago app can use the server. Each user is rate-limited.
Your choices
- Turn weather off at any time in Settings.
- Turn automatic problem reports off in Settings → Report a problem.
- Withdraw the microphone, contacts or location permission in Android settings.
- Uninstalling Jaago removes everything it stored, including the Locker.
